What is Menopause?
Menopause is a normal part of aging for women resulting from the natural decline of reproductive hormones. It happens when ovaries no longer release egg every month marking the end of menstrual cycles. Menopause can happen in your 40s or 50s.
It is a natural biological process that all women go through but each woman experiences it differently. This is a time in a woman’s life which is full of transitions in addition to the physical ones. Women may be caring for aging parents or relatives, supporting their children as they move into adulthood or taking new responsibilities at work.
For some menstruation stops suddenly and they don’t have any troublesome symptoms. While for others it may take about 2-5 years and happen over a period of time with menopausal symptoms.
In the months or years leading up to menopause known as the Perimenopausal time, women might experience these signs and symptoms –
- hot flushes or chills
- irregular menses or complete absence of menses
- excessive bleeding
- sleeplessness
- irritability
- weeping without any apparent cause
- mood swings
- sadness
- loss of appetite
- weakness
- weight gain
- abdominal obesity
- back pain
- joint pains
- vaginal dryness
- heaviness and pain in breasts
- increase or decrease in breast size
- frequent urination
- thinning hair and dry skin
Homeopathy plays a major role in managing the menopausal complaints, both physical and emotional. Homeopathic medicines can also delay early menopause. These medicines are made from natural substances, hence there are no side effects and are completely safe for women.
Because every person’s physical and mental make-up is different, the medicines also are different even for the same complaints. Hence, one should avoid self-medicating and always consult a registered homeopathic physician for treatment.
The need for treatment of menopausal syndrome depends on the severity and duration of the symptoms. Women should ensure a healthy lifestyle incorporating regular physical activity and a nutrient-rich diet. Sleep and rest should be prioritized. One can also indulge in some form of a recreational activity to relax and rejuvenate.
More than anything else, this is a time when a woman needs love and care from her family and friends. Women with low stress, high optimism and a strong support of family tend to manage their menopausal symptoms better.
